honesty

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
1 John 1:5-10

This is a disciple writing to the churches telling them what not to do and what to do. This could be offending to many people at this church because they may think that he is accusing them of doing something wrong. But John does not care this is what needs to be said and if they do not heed his words that were from God then that is the wrong doing of the church not John. Honesty is good, we need to tell people what is wrong or what they are doing because they might not even know that they are doing it. If that person blast back with defense then that is even more of their problem and we have done what we can. Notice John is honest but also He tells them that he is doing it for the good of the church and the good of the people.

We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete. 1 John 1:3-4

He said that it was to make them have fellowship with Christ. This is my opinion so comment if you think differently.
