Galatians 4:6-7 (New King James Version)
And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Remember my post about being slaves of righteousness?
Well this verse really confused me.
It says you are no longer a slave but a son.
I thought of 2 things that this could be talking about.

  1. that you are not a slave to sin but a son to the Father, required to try to be Christ like thus being a slave in one way.
  2. or since God sent his spirit by dying for us we are freed from our sin, thus we are Gods son.

I am not sure if I made sense but I AM NEEDING SOME HELP!!

If you know what this verse means please tell me.

My take on this goes like this. The law and all that relates to it (the things we aren't able to keep and do) made us a slave. And though God loves us, being a slave to something means that it doesn't feel like love. But!! Being a son makes you an heir, gives you a special place, changes the entire relationship. Like you are my son. Imagine if there was someone that lived with us that wasn't related to us. He would have to live by my house rules, be limited by all that I set forth. I might even like the person a lot..but, do you think that that person would ever be able to share the freedoms that you have with me? Even though you have the same rules (for the most part)? Does that make sense?

I've never thought of us being a slave to Christ!
Arn't we free so we can choose whether to follow him or not?
To please him or go our own way?
I'm not quite sure what your talking about.
Maybe that verse is talking about being a slave to death.
