If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God. Romans 4:2
I am continuing what I did last time because I did not finish. Abraham was not justified by works.
What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. It was credited. If someone has no faith he is nothing in the end. People need to come to Jesus. No matter how "popular" you are if you don't believe in Jesus then you are worth nothing. In the end all will be justified, and everyone will see their sin.
What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "Do not covet." But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from law, sin is dead. Romans 7: 7-8
this is something I read this morning and it is talking about how if there was no law sin would be dead. There are different sides to that. People might think that if there was no law people would go and do whatever they want and do sinful things. But what is sin? Disobeying Gods laws!
So if there was no law then there could be no sin. Think of Adam and Eve. There was one law,and that was to not eat fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden. They disobeyed and it was sin. If there was no rule not to eat the fruit from that tree then it would not have been wrong. Then he said that sin is tempting and it seizes every opportunity. If there was no law not to eat from the tree in the middle of the garden then they would have thought of it as any other tree and not really cared between which tree they ate from. It is pride that brings us to this, we want to do what we want and have no limit. We want to show God who is boss and really we are making fools of ourselves.
