Mark 11:28 (New International Version)
"By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you authority to do this?"

The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, "What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him."
Mark 1:27

Matthew 21:23
Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you this authority?"

Why is Authority important?
Everyone is asking where He gets his authority.
People use the devil to perform tricks and do things, they could claim it was just themselves, or their Dad gave them the power, but only they would know.
The people did not want a false prophet or somebody fake.
They wanted the real Jesus.
Allot of times I find myself thinking, who are they to question Jesus.
If a guy walked up to you and said I am Jesus, what would you think.
I would think I would really look in to this guy.
I would not just dive in head first, because I would not know what to look for.
Now we know, and we think that everyone should have known before, but they had no example of what Jesus is like.
They wanted to make sure it was by The Lord's authority that Jesus was speaking.
That is why they asked those questions.
