If Samuel was being spoken to by the Lord why didn't he just go to Jesse instead of trusting in the Lord it is what happens so much today in our world. We feel like God is telling us something but we decide that something might go wrong so we don't do it. The Lord said do not look at his appearance or his stature because I have rejected him. If I was choosing king I would choose the wrong man because I would not choose the smallest weakest looking man. I am often mislead by looks and I don't look inside the heart. How did David's brothers respond I wonder I wish we new. This verse lines up neatly with what I just read.
Luke .22:26 - Whoever is greatest among you must become Like the youngest.
Davids motivation was not to have fame or the reward it was to honor God. The other men didn't even do it for the reward so God helped David.
