Deuteronomy 4:1

Hear now, O Israel, the decrees and laws I am about to teach you. Follow them so that you may live and may go in and take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, is giving you. Deuteronomy 4:1

This is a command to obey and it comes with a promise. Many things that God tells us to do comes with a promise. Gods promises are like rewards or having someone say good job except God gives rewards like long life and happiness, things that people can not give.
That says allot in itself about God, it shows us how good and gracious God is.
He does not give commands without rewards and the ultimate reward is heaven. Though disobedience does not go unpunished. So God is all together FAIR, and HE is the ONLY one that is FAIR.
